Celebration: Republication of The Catskills

Local publisher Purple Mountain Press recently republished The Catskills: From Wilderness to Woodstock, (which had gone out of print from its earlier publisher). On Friday, August 16th at 7:00 pm, you are invited to join Alf’s son Kit and friends of Alf to remember the legendary chronicler of the Catskills and celebrate his work.  For countless readers over the course of fifty years, Alf’s stand-alone book has served as the gateway to learning about and treasuring the Catskills, in all the region’s intricate and colorful history. In addition to the many accomplishments of his long life, Alf was great fun to be around, entertaining and wry. It is fortunate indeed, for the present and future of the Catskills, that there appeared a historian equal to the task of telling their story. Alf was that historian, and The Catskills is that book. Join us and the publishers as we remember and pay tribute to him.
