On Friday, December 4, at 7 p.m., Tobe Carey will introduce his latest documentary,

Mountain River: The Esopus Creek, Headwaters to the Hudson.

This feature-length film follows the Esopus Creek from its headwaters on Slide Mountain in New York’s Catskill Mountains, to the Ashokan Reservoir and on to the Hudson River at Saugerties, NY. The story begins with the ancient geologic forces that formed the Catskills and goes on to explore Native American and colonial settlements. The video also touches on the innovative beginnings of the American Industrial Revolution along the Esopus in Saugerties. The narrative is supported by interviews with New York State experts and historians. In addition there is a lively sound track featuring the music of Tim Kapeluck, Jay Ungar and Molly Mason, Evan Pritchard and Artie Traum.

Tobe Carey’s presentation will include three cuts from his new film. DVDs of Carey’s Mountain River and his other titles: Deep Water, The Catskill Mountain House, and Rails to the Catskills are available for order through the HSW gift shop (details below). All are priced at $19.95.

Will Nixon will be on hand to discuss

The Pocket Guide to Woodstock.

The Historical Society of Woodstock’s Annual Holiday Sale is virtual this year. Although the Shop at HSW’s Eames House Museum is closed due to Covid-19, selected gifts with a home-town theme are available for ordering by calling 845-901-9741. Curbside pickup will be on Saturday, December 5 and Sunday, December 6 from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the Historical Society, 20 Comeau Drive in Woodstock.
